BHHS Proudly Supports the FMAAR Habitat for Humanity Home Build

Real estate agents in our area are usually busy helping families buy and sell homes. Something you might not know is they are dedicated to giving back to the community. Our #GoodToKnow REALTOR® Kathryn Anderson is excited to explain how the Fargo-Moorhead Area Association of REALTORS® (FMAAR) and the Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity Home Build project works.

As an association made up of over 850 real estate professionals, our goal this year is to have the first ever Habitat for Humanity build that is fully funded by FMAAR. Our goal is to raise $125,000 by May 1st, so every donation helps, no matter the size.

We are a proud supporter of this cause, if you are interested in donating click here! There are also a variety of volunteering opportunities to help with the build. We need both! It takes about 275 volunteers from all skill levels to help build the house.

The thing that surprises people the most about Habitat for Humanity is that the Partner Families pay for the home. They are not receiving this house for free. They go through about 20 hours of classes on home ownership and the financial responsibility that comes with that. The families also meet with a financial counselor to determine what they can afford to pay on a monthly basis. So instead of their mortgage payments going to a bank, they are paying Habitat for Humanity back for their house. This cycle is what enables Habitat to continue building new houses for new Partner Families. Along with the classes, families are also required to volunteer at least 250 hours per adult to build in sweat equity into building their home.

The Fargo Moorhead Area Association of REALTORS® exists to:

  • PROTECT the rights of individual real estate ownership and the real estate industry,
  • PROVIDE the products and services that enhance the REALTOR®’s value in the real estate transaction,
  • PROMOTE and enforce the REALTOR Code of Ethics.

FMAAR provides our valued members innovative opportunities to achieve success and elevate our presence within the community.
