How to Ease Home Buyer Stress

The home buying process can be a happy and exciting experience if you prepare yourself before beginning your home search. You can minimize stress if you take the following steps:

  • Determine what you can afford. Examine your financial position, total income, monthly expenses and the amount you have available for a down payment.
  • Check your credit score and credit report. Make sure all of the information is correct and, if not, have corrections made.
  • Get pre-approved for a mortgage. Knowing the exact amount a lender will approve you to borrow gives you confidence and an advantage when negotiating.
  • Consider hiring a buyer’s agent to represent you. A REALTOR® working on your behalf can help you find a home, guide you through the process, and help you negotiate with the seller.

Lastly, be flexible. remember… there is no such thing as a perfect house. Decide what’s most important to you and your family and be reasonable and willing to compromise on some of your less important requirements.
