How to Prepare for a Move

Moving can be a pleasant experience if you prepare properly. Here are some tips to help you organize your belongings to make your move easier.

Take an inventory of each room in your house. Give away or throw away items you no longer need – or consider having a rummage sale. Don’t waste money storing or moving items you won’t use in your new home.

If you plan to hire professional movers, get at least 2 or 3 quotes. You can save money by doing some or all of the packing yourself. Movers will typically prepare an inventory of items to be moved… so make sure all quotes are for the identical items.

Consider taking a video or photos of expensive items in case they are damaged during your move – and always make sure that the mover you choose is insured.

Make arrangements for small children or pets to not be present on moving day.

Make a list of who to notify about your change of address including: utilities, the post office, your children’s school, and your insurance agent.

If you’re organized, moving can be painless and enjoyable.
