Reasons You May Have Standing Water in Your Yard

If you notice standing water in your yard, make sure you know what might have caused it.

If a heavy rain occurred recently, don’t be surprised to see standing water. If standing water only occurs after a heavy rainfall, you more than likely don’t have a problem because rain is often not completely absorbed by the soil.

If the original grading plan for your yard has changed it could easily cause water to pool. If so, consult an engineer or landscaper to correct the situation.

Check to see if any yard drains have a heavy load of dirt, debris, grass or leaves.

Has any fencing been added that might block the flow of water?

Keep in mind that heavy, clay soil is often the cause of poor drainage. Clay does not absorb water well and it may be necessary to install drainage channels.

Standing water can be a threat to your home… so it is important to address this issue with correct and long-lasting solutions.
