Things to Do Before House Hunting

Before you start house hunting, make sure you are ready and qualified to start your search.

Check your credit score – since your credit score and the amount of your down payment will determine your mortgage interest rate.

Check your credit report to make sure there are no errors.

Get your finances in order and prepare a budget that shows your monthly income and obligations.

Get prequalified for a mortgage to determine what you can afford.

Identify neighborhoods you’d like to live in based on factors that may be important to you, like your price range, proximity to your work, the quality of schools, and access to recreation and transportation.

Select a REALTOR® to represent you in the home search and to guide you through the entire transaction.

The home buying process can be an emotional one if you let your emotions become a part of the decision. A better plan is to discuss your family’s wants and needs with your REALTOR® and to rely on your REALTOR® for sound real estate advice.
