Guide to Addressing Mold in Your Home

If you’re wondering how to address mold problems in your home (or how to prevent mold growth) the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has information and guidance you should see.

Molds play a part in nature by breaking down organic matters such as fallen leaves and dead trees. Indoors, however, mold growth should be avoided.

Mold can begin growing indoors when mold spores land on wet surfaces. While there are many types of molds, none of them grow without water or moisture. Molds produce allergens, irritants and in some cases, potentially toxic substances.

Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores can cause allergic reactions – so if you have mold growth in your home it’s important to clean up the mold and fix the underlying moisture problem so the mold doesn’t come back. If mold appears in large areas you should definitely seek professional help.
