Finding a qualified, professional remodeling contractor doesn’t have to be a difficult task. The following guidelines will make the selection process easier.
Employ a contractor with an established business in your area. Local firms can be checked through references from past customers in your community.
Many states, but not all, require contractors to be licensed and/or bonded – and most provide online tools to verify this information.
If your home is built prior to 1978, make sure your contractor is a certified lead renovator.
Make sure the contractor’s insurance coverage meets all the minimum requirements and ask to see their certificate of insurance.
Check with the Better Business Bureau to ensure there are no adverse files on record for the contractor.
Solicit bids from more than one contractor and be sure they are all bidding on the same scope and quality of work.
Follow these simple guidelines and you’ll be better prepared to make an informed decision.
