A recent survey of residential landscape trends by the American Society of Landscape Architects looked at what elements consumers prefer for their outdoor living spaces. Let’s take a look at what made their list.
For the first time, wireless internet connectivity appeared as a trend, suggesting that people want a backyard that allows them to enjoy nature while staying connected.
Other trends included the planting of drought tolerant plants and incorporating native plants in to low maintenance landscapes.
The planting of vegetable gardens continues to remain popular, as do other ways to reduce lawn area such as the addition of fire pits or fire places.
Various ways to manage water also made the list, including the installation of permeable paving, rainwater harvesting, and the use of water-efficient irrigation systems.
